Take A Walk In A Park

March 29, 2021

The Visitors Bureau is working to promote health and wellness throughout Miami County. What better way to do that than to encourage our residents and visitors to participate in National Take A Walk In A Park Day on March 30th?

Being outdoors is proven to help our overall well-being, both physically and mentally. Some of these benefits are reduced levels of stress, increase concentration and better moods. Who wouldn’t want that?

Luckily for you, Miami County has an abundance of parks you can spend your days roaming. Whether you decide to stroll through your favorite park or explore a new one, get outside for a while. Here are a few ideas of things to see and do:

Charleston Falls
2535 Ross Rd., Tipp City

Explore Charleston Falls Preserve, a must-see park with over 216-acres of prairie and forest. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy nature and wildlife. Follow the trails to a breathtaking view of the waterfall for a perfect photo op.

Lost Creek Reserve
2385 OH-41, Troy

Lost Creek Reserve is rich with history, housing the Historic Knoop Homestead for over 200 years. The Victorian Era farmhouse, now the Miami County Park District offices, and barns still stand on the landscape. It contains a trail on the property over five miles long that is great for hiking and viewing wildlife.

Stillwater Prairie Reserve
9750 SR 185, Covington

Located along the Stillwater River, Stillwater Prairie Reserve contains a circular hiking trail that takes you along the river, woodlands, and marshy habitats. Three man-made ponds can be found here making it the perfect spot for a picnic and fishing.

Garbry Big Woods Reserve
6660 N. Casstown Sidney Rd., Piqua

With over two miles of trails on 170-acres of land, Garbry Big Woods Reserve is great for archery, fishing, and hiking. There is also an educational arboretum located here as well that contains several different native Ohio trees.

Brukner Nature Center
5995 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Troy

Brukner Nature Center includes 165 woodland acres with six miles of hiking trails on the property. See live native wildlife exhibits of animals being rehabilitated at the center and learn about these animals from a staff naturalist while inside the interactive environmental education center.
