Five Community Parks You’re Sure to Love!
May 1, 2025
Miami County has two rivers weaving throughout its communities, the State Scenic Stillwater River and Ohio’s first National Water Trail, the Great Miami River. Along the Great Miami River, you’ll find the Great Miami Recreational Trail, part of the nation’s largest paved trail network. For those who want to take in some fresh air with a walk or a picnic, attend a fun community concert, or make memories with their friends and families, Miami County has some great parks on or near these rivers with much to offer.
Completed in 2024, Lock 9 Park is a focal point of downtown Piqua. With beautiful riverfront views and green spaces, water features, and convenient access to Piqua’s downtown district, Lock 9 is quickly becoming the hub of activity. The park comes alive during events and concerts at the Trevino Performance Pavilion, and don’t forget to grab a bite to eat or a drink at nearby Crooked Handle Brewing Co.
Schoolhouse Park is an ongoing project that is beginning to emerge as the community gathering space in the heart of Covington. With a large playground and a brand new splash pad and pavilion, this park offers endless fun for families looking to enjoy outdoor activities. To add to the fun, there are a variety of other amenities planned for future development.
Nestled along the Great Miami River is Treasure Island Park. This long-standing park in Troy offers beautiful spaces on and off the river. Visitors to Treasure Island will have plenty of space to walk, bike, fish, picnic, and they can even spend the night in a floating tent. Concerts at the amphitheater happen throughout the warmer months, and when at Treasure Island, take time to explore the Monarch Butterfly Habitat located on the north side of the park.
On the north side of downtown is Tipp City’s oldest park, City Park. Filled with tall trees, picnic tables, frisbee golf, tennis courts, a playground, the famous Tipp City Roundhouse, and the aquatic center, there is no shortage of outdoor fun here.
West Milton Municipal Park sits right on the scenic Stillwater River. A stop here promises a peaceful area to relax and to enjoy the surrounding beauty. While here, residents and visitors can rent a canoe or kayak from Barefoot Canoe, play in the large playground area, grab a friend for a round of frisbee golf, go fishing, and more.
Whether you’re exploring riverfront trails, playing on the playground, or relaxing at a local concert, these community parks along the rivers offer countless opportunities to connect with nature and each other.
