FREE & Open to the Public | Doors open at 6:30 pm

The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center is delighted to welcome baritone Ben Flanders and pianist Sonya Szabo-Reynolds to the 2025–2026 Drawing Room Chamber Concert Series. Together, they will perform Sometimes It Happens So, a poignant song cycle by American composer Kile Smith, set to the poetry of Jane Flanders.

Ben Flanders is the founder and Artistic Director of Slavic Voices, an ensemble dedicated to the art song traditions of Eastern and Central Europe. He is also an active recitalist and opera performer, known for championing new American art song.

Sonya Szabo-Reynolds is an acclaimed collaborative pianist and educator who has partnered with leading orchestral musicians and served as President of the Ohio Music Teachers Association. She was named OhioMTA’s Certified Teacher of the Year in 2016 and continues to inspire students as an examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music.

This intimate evening of art song offers a rare opportunity to experience a contemporary song cycle in the historic Hayner Drawing Room. Admission is free, but seating is limited—arrive early for the best view of this exceptional performance.
