A town steeped in rich architectural heritage and historic importance, Troy, the county seat, is named for the ancient city of the same name.  Architectural highlights include “The Public Square”, the 1807 traffic circle in the center of town, beautifully restored & landscaped with a fountain, surrounded by lovely renovated Victorian-age buildings that echo the gracious style of another era.   Many are on the National Register.   The Miami-Erie Canal propelled Troy into a prosperous business district, which has continued through today.   A self-guided walking tour featuring downtown architecture was developed by Troy Main Street.  The historic Miami County Courthouse, in downtown Troy and overlooking the Great Miami River, stands as the masterpiece of the County, towering 185 feet above the river.  Troy is blessed with hometown charm, charismatic shopping, numerous restaurants ranging from fine dining, cafes, & ethnic choices to diners with famous burgers & shakes!

Troy played an important role in aviation history with WACO Aircraft Company, which produced popular models of open cockpit & cabin bi-planes from the 1920’s – 1940’s, & was once the largest producer of civilian aircraft in the world.   Today, WACO salutes that history with a museum & airfield in Troy.   Goodrich Corporation produces the braking systems & wheels for the space shuttle in its Troy facility.   Food lovers will enjoy knowing the original world headquarters of the famous Kitchen Aid food equipment line was produced in Troy. Brukner Nature Center of Troy is dedicated to environmental preservation & education plus wildlife rehabilitation. Popular events celebrating Troy’s heritage are the annual Troy Strawberry Festival, & the Festival of Nations.
