Maple Leaf

11163 Emerick Road   |  West Milton, Ohio

This pattern was selected because the farm has a woods that is mostly maple trees which they tap to make maple syrup in the smaller barn located behind the featured barn. This hip roof barn is a traditional wood frame barn with pegged construction and is painted red. The small lean-to attached to the east end of the barn houses a pump that serves a nearly in-exhaustible well to supply water for livestock in the past and the maple processing at present. The original owner, Esta Longenecker, raised cattle in the barn and the next owner began farming the land in 1935. Since then the barn has sheltered cattle, sheep and hogs. The mow was used to store hay and straw for the animals. The barn is now used for storage of machinery and supplies. The current owners purchased the farm in the 1980s.

Property is located southwest of West Milton. Emerick Rd. intersects St. Rt. 48 just south of West Milton in a residential area; turn west and continue for approximately 5 miles. You will pass Shiloh Rd. and Albaugh Rd. The barn is on the north side of road.
