Concert on Prouty Plaza in downtown Troy

On Friday, August 10 at 7:30 p.m. a Steely Dan tribute band will take the stage for the Fridays on Prouty concert series. This 10-piece Ohio based group called AJA came together to recreate the sounds of one of rock’s most legendary and enigmatic bands with stunning precision and energy. They lay down a tight and groovy rhythm section that handles the full spectrum of Steely beats from “Bodhisattva” to “Babylon Sisters” all with swing and precision. On the keyboard, Eric Baumgartner delivers the nuanced harmonies of Donald Fagan with focused attention on getting the tone just right. The iconic guitar parts that have historically been recorded by a veritable who’s who of guitar legends are masterfully handled by Brad Meyers and Marcos Sastre. The brass section is Michael Mavridoglou on Trumpet and Dwayne Irvin on Saxophone. Vocalist Rick Auhagen executes Donald Fagan’s deceptively difficult vocals with an effortlessness that captures the Fagan spirit without being a mimic. It’s a big band with that big syncopated jazz-pop dance beat.
